Franziska Giffey is the Governing Mayor of Berlin and the first regularly elected woman to hold this office. in the starpodcast “Die Boss” she talks to host Simone Menne about her plans for the capital and reveals how the reactions to her Senate were – which, with seven women to four men, is the most female in history.
“Now for the first time we have more women than men in the state government. The first thing I was asked was: Do men actually have to feel disadvantaged? No, they don’t have to. If you relate that to eight hundred years of city history, then it will it will probably be a very long time before men have to feel disadvantaged,” Giffey said on the podcast.
She also talks to Simone Menne about having to give up her dream job of teaching because of a voice disorder and reports how she feels about criticism of her voice today. “The view that you have to have a loud voice is a basic attitude that people have who believe that an authoritarian management style with employees yelling as loudly as possible is a helpful management style. I don’t believe in it. I believe: If you are clear in what you say, if you are open to the people you deal with and if you are technically competent, then you can achieve a lot with soft tones,” says Giffey.
In this episode of “Die Boss”, you will also find out how the SPD politician dealt with the allegations of plagiarism about her doctorate, which has since been filed, and how her East German origins shaped her in dealing with setbacks.
In “The Boss – Power is Female” top women talk among themselves: hostess and multi-board member Simone Menne (including Deutsche Post DHL, Henkel) meets female bosses from all areas of society to talk to them about their lives and careers. “Die Boss” appears every fortnight on Wednesdays on and on all common podcast platforms.
