Sergio Massa met with businessmen from the United States Chamber of Commerce

“I met at the @USChamber with representatives of more than 30 American companies with investments in the country”said Massa this morning on his Twitter social network account.

In the meeting that took place last night, Massa and the businessmen reviewed “the economic road map that Argentina drew for the coming years and the measures announced to stabilize the macroeconomy,” according to the minister.

“We are working to improve the business climate, creating possibilities for more global firms to increase their presence in Argentina in strategic sectors such as services, agribusiness, minerals, citrus and hydrocarbons”said the minister.

What left the second day of Massa in May

Massa again obtained in Washington the assistance of another international organization: the World Bank announced a loan for Argentina for $900 million. In addition, he met with officials from the International Finance Corporation.

One of the main points of the day was the meeting he had at the White House with President Biden’s advisers, Jake Sullivan, Mike Pyle and Juan González, whom he had received the night before at the home of Ambassador Jorge Argüello.

Massa was accompanied by Deputy Minister Gabriel Rubinstein, Chief of Staff Leonardo Madcur and his adviser Gustavo Martinez Pandiani. Ambassadors Jorge Arguello and Marc Stanley were also present.

At the meeting they discussed the effects of the war on the Argentine economy and exchanged ideas on how to cooperatively address the challenges of global food and energy security. They also made progress on initiatives aimed at increasing bilateral trade and investment.

Later, the minister was accompanied by the Secretary of Energy, Flavia Royón, and the Secretary of Mining, Fernanda Ávila, with whom he met with Del Renigar, Vice President of Government Affairs of Rio Tinto, and Guillermo Calo, Executive Director of the Rincón Project.

The Rio Tinto companyone of the largest mining companies in the world, approved the investment of US$190 million to develop the Rincón lithium project in Salta, whose initial commercial projection of 3,000 tons of annual production of battery-grade lithium carbonate will allow obtaining greater knowledge and information of the industrial and technological process and continue advancing in new investments. In addition, Massa and Ávila held a working meeting with Paul Graves, CEO of LIVENT, a leading company in lithium technology. The firm has invested US$1.5 billion in Argentina.

On the other hand, the minister shared a meeting at the Argentine Embassy with Joao Carlos Costa Braga, Global VP and president for Latin America of Whirlpool to start talks on the inauguration of the most modern plant in South America for front-loading washing machines.

This project requires an investment of US$52 million for the plant and manufacture of a washing machine every 40 seconds. It is estimated that by 2023 the company’s exports will reach US$70 million in the continent.
