D. Duarte Pio recalls the “very ironic” comments of Queen Isabella II, who is “missed by all of Europe.”

Duke of Braganza Duarte Pio remembered Queen Isabella II, who died today at the age of 96, as someone who made “very ironic comments”, believing that he “would be missed by all of Europe”.

Asked by Lusa Duarte, Pio said that the Queen of the United Kingdom is “a model of what a head of state should be.”

“I remember President Ramallo Eanes [ter dito] that his model was to follow the kings of Europe, because he thought that was how a head of state should be,” he added.

In the eyes of the Duke of Braganza, Isabella II is “needed by all of Europe.”

Despite being “closer” to Prince Edward, the Queen’s son, Prince Philip, the Queen’s husband, who died in April 2021, or the current King Charles III, with whom he was in “meetings on architecture and ecology”, the House’s heir Braganza was “several times” deprived of the queen.

“I found her a person in particular, funny, she had very ironic comments, very graceful, less cheerful than her husband, Prince Philip was more cheerful, sometimes even too much,” she claimed.

In all the meetings he had with the Queen, Duarte Pio always heard “praise” for the Portuguese community living in England and the United Kingdom, and for how the “intellectual, cultural and scientific elite [portuguesas] settled in the kingdom.

Queen Elizabeth II passed away today at the age of 96 at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, it was announced through the royal family’s Twitter social network.

“The Queen passed away peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and Queen Consort will stay at Balmoral tonight and return to London tomorrow. [sexta-feira]” adds a message.
