The Düsseldorf toilet paper manufacturer Hakle has to file for bankruptcy – crushed by rapidly rising raw material and energy prices. A similar fate could soon befall many more companies.

Soft toilet paper that smells of lavender or chamomile – German consumers have known the traditional Düsseldorf brand for such particularly high-quality hygiene products, at least since they brought the first tissue toilet paper onto the market in 1959 to replace the rough toilet paper made of crepe that had dominated to date. “The Art of Caring” is the motto Hakle uses to advertise on its website. Now the company itself needs someone to care. At the beginning of September, Hakle had to file for bankruptcy.
