Formalize removal of subsidies for consumption greater than 400kw

In this way, the consumption that exceeds this limit will pay the same subsidy-free rate paid by Level 1, made up of users with higher incomes.

According to the Secretary of Energy, Flavia Royón, last month, the consumption limit of 400 kWh per month is “generous” because of the nine million households that requested to maintain electricity and gas subsidies, “80% consume less than that ” and “a typical home consumes between 200 and 250 kWh”.

The limit applies to the entire country with the exception of the provinces of Misiones, Corrientes, Formosa, Chaco and La Rioja, whose limit will be 550 kWh/month because in these jurisdictions the coverage of natural gas by networks does not exceed 25%. of homes.

While, for users of level 2 (lower income) no cap will be applied as it is considered that they “could not afford to pay for new service increases”, and when the possibility of reducing the level of energy consumption through economic incentives is “limited because it is conditioned by other variables, such as the number of members of the household, the characteristics of the dwelling and the efficiency of the appliances domestic”.

The cap points to not only saving subsidies through tariffs, but also through energy savings.

In this sense, the resolution indicates in its recitals that “energy efficiency” is understood as a “strategic guideline that must be present in the regulations pertaining to the matter, due to the positive impact it represents”, and the measures that have it in account “involve a significant reduction in emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases”.

The limits, therefore, seek to “ensure the equitable distribution of energy subsidies in accordance with the rational and responsible use of energy resources.”
