Boring, meaningless, monotonous: BMD, the Steyr-based specialist for business software, often has to fight against these prejudices, especially among young people. In order to convey how exciting this department can be, the company created an internship format a year ago, the “BMD Future Lab”.
Interns are given the opportunity to work on research projects, for example the implementation of mobile business applications for smart watches. At the same time, a comprehensive insight into the processes at BMD is offered. “We want to awaken the potential of young talents,” says Jürgen Palkoska, head of the software development department.
The focus of the internship is not routine tasks such as making coffee and copying, but joint research and innovation. Each intern works on a project specifically defined for the BMD Future Lab. The tasks depend on the strengths of the participants and their training.
25 pupils and students completed an internship in July and August. The next round of applications will start in October. Ongoing training with an IT focus and basic knowledge of software development and databases are desirable. Details below www.bmd.com
