After the review with the IMF, the Government goes for the agreement with the Paris Club

At the Palacio de Hacienda they are satisfied with the achievements made during the minister’s seven-day visit to the United States, where he held meetings with State Department officials, businessmen, and directors of multilateral organizations and the Treasury.

The tentative date to close the agreement with the Paris Club would be the end of September.

The meeting with the IMF

Last week, the head of the IMF, Kristalina Georgieva, highlighted Argentina’s “very strong commitment” to the economic program, he praised Massa’s team and said it was a “good sign” that there was now an approach in which the entire government appeared to be involved in implementing the economic plan.

“I left with the feeling that we have a partner that we can work well with,” indicated the managing director of the Monetary Fund after the meeting she held last Monday with Massa.

“Minister Massa came together with the Governor of the Central Bank (Miguel Pesce) and key people from his team and that is a good sign, that we have a whole-of-government approach to implement the program. We are at a time when , he soberly acknowledged, I soberly acknowledged, that the problems facing Argentina are very significant and at the top of the list is inflation, which is devastating especially for the poor in Argentina,” Georgieva described.

Thus, the head of the Fund highlighted the existing unity in the economic team and on the political level after the assumption of Massa as head of the Palacio de Hacienda.

In the technical conversations between Ministry officials and IMF staff, the details of the 2023 Budget project that was sent to Congress in the last hours of Thursday were finished.

According to the main details of the initiative, the Government foresees an inflation of 94.5% for 2022 and 60% for 2023. For the next year it projects a growth of 2.5% of the economy and a deficit of 1.9% , in line with what was agreed with the Fund.

Regarding the dissemination of the staff agreement, the IMF itself reiterated -in a conference last Thursday- that the document will be known “in the next few days” and that, as usual, the Board usually analyzes it a couple of weeks later , that is to say that the eventual approval will probably be in the first weeks of October.

That is to say, Argentina will have to face the payment of about 2,600 million dollars on the next 21.
