Let them move aside and let us produce

In that same interview, he specified his perspective on the path that the Government should take in its relationship with the countryside: “The central axis is to have freedom in the markets, that is what they have to do. We must reduce public spending and recover the competitiveness of regional productions because today the different exchange rates suffocate them. Because of wrong policies, livestock farming has to reverse these hard months and for that it is necessary that mistakes are not repeated. In short, move aside and let us produce“, he added.

On Friday, the Secretary of Agriculture, John Joseph Bahillomet with the Liaison Table and analyzed measures for regional economies and small producers, who are dissatisfied with the “soybean dollar”, because they do not feel benefited by having previously sold the entire harvest.

The meeting was attended by the president of the Argentine Rural Confederations (CRA), Jorge Chemes; the head of the Argentine Agrarian Federation (FAA), Carlos Achetoni; and the vice president of Coninagro, Elbio Laucirica.

There were no announcements after the conclave, but the authorities of the rural entities requested that the rate increase be rolled back to continue the negotiations.

“We made it clear that we will not continue with the meetings if that resolution is not reversed. Then, the secretary asked us that the 4 entities send a note to the Ministry to demand the elimination, something that we will do immediately”Chemes indicated to the media.

The great absentee was the president of the Argentine Rural Society (SRA), Nicolás Pino, who made the decision not to go as a protest against the measure taken by the Government in relation to the rise in interest rates.

However, Ezequiel De Freijo, who is the economist of the Institute of Economic Studies and International Negotiations of that rural entity, was present. Although it was reported that De Freijo did not attend as a management representative, he did attend to keep up to date with the agenda.

In tune with Chemes, Achetoni maintained that “it is quite impossible” to dialogue with the national authorities if his request is not fulfilled.

“It is a very strong contradiction to have asked the sector to liquidate soybeans to get out of the trance they have with the need for foreign exchange, but at the same time to hinder the next campaign of that crop. We are facing a drought and many producers prefer to keep some stock before a possible bad harvest”, launched.

The protest is focused on the measure imposed by the Central Bank that set a minimum of 120 percent on the reference values for interest rates in pesos for soybean producers who paid a minimum of 95 percent of their harvest.
