“We also highlight the importance of implementation according to the program signed with the IMF to face the enormous challenge of containing inflation,” added Georgieva.

The director of the agency also said that “the implementation of the program and the Argentine commitment expressed by Minister Massa’s team has left us satisfied.”

“I really enjoyed seeing the photos of President Fernandez’s son and seeing him grow strong as we hope Argentina will grow and that his happy face when he talks about the child can also spread to the entire Argentine people,” he said.

Asked about the changes in the Ministry of Economy that have taken place in recent months, Georgieva replied that this is “a sovereign decision.” “We concentrate on what must be done,” she said about her role at the head of the entity. Along the same lines, she highlighted the work of former Minister Martín Guzmán as well as the meeting she had with the former head of the Palacio de Hacienda, Silvina Batakis. Regarding the latter, she said that she welcomed her accompanying Sergio Massa on his trip to the United States. “Three ministers, one program, one goal,” she summarized.

“Massa is proof that the Government is the owner of the program, and that the Fund is there to continue providing support in the future,” he considered.

The meeting took place after the IMF reported that it had approved the second review of the extended facilities agreement that it would grant Argentina to refinance the US$44.5 billion debt contracted by Mauricio Macri’s administration.

“The agreement is subject to the approval of the Executive Board of the IMF, which is expected to meet in the coming weeks. Once the review is complete, Argentina would have access to around US$3.9 billion (SDR 3 billion),” it said.
