The course, in which more than 70 customs agents participate, is part of the Container Control Program (PCC), created jointly in 2014 by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the World Customs Organization (OMA) to combat drug trafficking by inspecting containers.
In addition to the Argentine tax authorities, the Political Counselor of the United States Embassy in Buenos Aires, Robert Allison, and the United Nations Regional Training Leader, César Schiaffino, also participated in the opening ceremony.
At the beginning of the activities, Michel pointed out that “Argentina joined this joint program of the United Nations and the WCO in 2016: it is important to highlight that this is a Customs state policy that crosses the different governments “.
Then, the general director of Customs added: “For us there are two fundamental pillars to strengthen control tasks. One is the exchange of information -and, in that sense, the Argentine Customs has signed 39 agreements that allow it to exchange information with 119 countries – the other pillar is technological updating”.
He also announced that a new high-energy portal-type scanner will soon be installed at the Exolgan terminal in Buenos Aires, which will allow scanning 160 moving containers per hour.
For his part, the federal administrator highlighted the historical role and work commitment of customs personnel: “We are all part of a team. Things are not achieved individually, but jointly. Let’s keep working together”, he called.
