The same entity forecasts that 5G connections “will reach 5.9 billion by the end of 2027, with 1 billion more per year from 2023 to 2027.”

They also indicated that “North America’s 5G connections grew 21% quarterly to reach 99 million at the end of the second quarter of 2022”.

The doubling of global 5G connections is in line with mobile data usage, which is also doubling year over year, according to reports from the Ericsson company.

In turn, surveys by the consulting firm Omnia suggest that “430 million 5G connections were added worldwide from the second quarter of 2021 to the second quarter of 2022, which represents an increase of 112% from 383 million to 813 million” .

These figures are equivalent to a consecutive quarterly growth of 16%, from 703 million in the first quarter of 2022 to 813 million in the second quarter of 2022, according to the entity.

In total, the number of commercial 5G networks in the world reached 233, according to data from TeleGeography and 5G Americas.

That number is expected to rise to 313 by the end of 2022 and 352 by the end of 2024, representing strong growth in 5G network investments in many regions around the world.
