Upper Austria as a region can keep up with the best comparable regions given the current economic performance, but has some catching up to do in terms of attractiveness. This is particularly important for long-term future development. While Upper Austria performs well above average for companies, the attractiveness of the location for highly qualified people is about average.
A weakness of the location is the poor accessibility compared to other regions, said Friedrich Schneider, professor emeritus at the JKU and scientific director of the initiative for business location Upper Austria. This applies to Linz Airport as well as to the poor north-south rail connection.
According to Schneider, Upper Austria is competitive in terms of tax rates and spending on research and development. Upper Austria also got good marks in the areas of green mobility and green energy. Here, our federal state is characterized by an above-average growth in the number of patents.
