Hand in hand with tourism, US$850 million entered the country in the winter season

Hand in hand with the recovery of connectivity, in which Aerolineas Argentinas played a central role, and the promotion in strategic markets, we had a very good winter and we expect a last quarter with levels very close to those of the pre-pandemic“, Lammens said in statements to the press, adding that “in terms of the spending that these visitors have, we are already close to exceeding the numbers of 2019.”

so far this year 4,510,000 visitors entered through all the border crossings, of which 2,312,000 were tourists (that is, they spent at least one night in the country) and in the last two months the recovery of tourist income compared to the same period of the pre-pandemic is around 70%.

Official sources detailed that “so far this year those visitors have spent US$2.06 billion”, and that “in the last three months the recovery of tourist spending is 90% compared to the same months of the pre-pandemic“, estimating that the last months of 2022 “will end with higher figures” than those prior to the outbreak of Covid-19.

In the list of nationalities, Brazilians and Uruguayans were the main ones, respectively with 22.8% and 20.3% of total arrivals, followed by those from Paraguay (10.8%), Chile (10.7 %) and the United States (8%).

Likewise, it was indicated that the markets that recovered at a better rate during the winter compared to the same period of the pre-pandemic were Uruguay (131%), Mexico (81%), the United States (80%), Brazil (70%) and Colombia (69%).

Lammens stressed that “receptive tourism represents a great opportunity for the country because it is an environmentally friendly activity, genuinely generates foreign exchange, mobilizes regional economies and creates job opportunities for young people.”

“We are working to transform Argentina into a world-wide tourism power,” he said, while considering that tourism policy in general “is bearing fruit.”

In this sense, he remarked that “Hand in hand with PreViaje, we supported the sector in the worst moment of the pandemic with the promotion of domestic tourism”, and that “once the health situation allowed the borders to be opened, we bet on regional tourism with excellent results.“.

“In this new stage we are working on markets such as the United States and France, whose tourists have a very high average spending,” he concluded.
