Mobility: Mercedes-Benz is recalling more than 100,000 vehicles

The C-Class models produced between October 2020 and June 2022 are affected by the recall. Water in the trunk could cause a short circuit with other malfunctions.

Mercedes-Benz is recalling slightly more than 100,000 C-Class sedans worldwide. According to the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) in its database, 10,254 vehicles in Germany are probably affected. It is about vehicles from the production period from October 2020 to June 2022, said a spokesman for the company on request in Stuttgart.

The carmaker found that moisture could get into the signal acquisition and control module (SAM) if water got into the trunk. A possible short circuit could cause various malfunctions.

“Among other things, the exterior lighting at the rear of the vehicle could fail, the rear seat backrests could unlock without motivation and the reversing camera could not be available,” said the spokesman. According to the KBA, the risk of fire cannot be ruled out either.

As a precautionary measure, the affected vehicles will be retrofitted with a cover over the SAM to prevent the possible ingress of water, the spokesman said. The necessary workshop stay lasts about an hour. Mercedes-Benz will notify customers in writing, who should make an appointment immediately.
