In the “Cave of the Lions” Judith Williams and Georg Kofler joined the creative startup “Tape Art”. Now the Lions explain why the deal didn’t come off after all.
The founders of “Tape Art” presented themselves with art made of adhesive tape on Monday evening in the “Den of the Lions”. And in fact, the adhesive artists from Berlin were able to convince two investors in the founding show with Georg Kofler and Judith Williams. But now it is clear: The “tape art” deal broke after the broadcast.
In a joint Facebook video, Williams and Kofler explain why they ultimately didn’t invest in the start-up. “We were enthusiastic about the creativity of tape art, what you can do and design with the tape,” says Williams in the short clip. In the course of the negotiations, however, it turned out that none of the founders wanted to be fully committed to the company, adds colleague Kofler. “Everyone wanted to do something on the side and unfortunately that was not a prerequisite for us to run a long-term and sustainable business,” said Kofler.
“Tape Art” turns glue into art
The “Tape Art” makers had presented colorful adhesive strips as a new art trend in the “Lions Cave”. The artists in the team are active around the world with their art of pasting, have pasted walls on New York streets and held exhibitions in Taiwan. With the help of the Klebeland specialist shop and online shop, they now wanted to sell the adhesive kits on a large scale – both as street art and for children’s rooms. The “Tape Art” quartet on the show seemed less adept when it came to business issues.
Three lions waved it off, but Williams and Kofler offered a joint investment of 150,000 euros for 20 percent of the company’s shares, which the founders accepted in the show. In the end, the deal didn’t come off after all. Now the adhesive specialists – according to their own statements, “market leader for colorful adhesive tapes & special foils”, have to continue without a celebrity investor.
