4.7 million tons of grains were exported

The Ukraine’s grain exports plummeted after Russia invaded the country on February 24 and blockaded its Black Sea ports, driving up global food prices and sparking fears of shortages in Africa and the Middle East.

The Asane sought to guarantee the supply of grains despite Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The grain shortage caused by the conflict pushed up global food prices. Russia recently promoted annexation referendums in some regions near the ports with access to the Black Sea, which generated a new rise in grain prices in the face of possible shortages.

Three Black Sea ports reopened under this agreement, signed on July 22 by Moscow and kyiv, and the ministry has said that these ports can load and send abroad between 100 and 150 cargo ships a month.

The ministry said that eight ships with 131,300 tons of agricultural products are due to leave Ukrainian Black Sea ports this Saturday.

Ukraine is, together with Russia, one of the main producers and exporters of grain world, shipped up to 6 million tons of grain a month before the war.

Also, Ukraine’s 2022 grain harvest could total 54.1-55.7 million tonnesan increase from a previous projection of between 52.5 million and 55.4 million tons, analyst APK-Inform said on Saturday.

The figures compare with a record 86 million tons in the previous cycle, because the Russian invasion has reduced the area harvested, the company said.

The consultant noted in a report that the harvest could include 19 million tons of wheat, 30 million tons of corn and 5.5 million tons of barley. According to the consultancy, a smaller harvest and logistical difficulties could reduce exports from July to June of the 2022/23 cycle to between 22.6 and 38.8 million tons.
