The IDB confirmed the Honduran Queen Mejía Chacón as interim president

In this regard, he said that “according to the Constitutive Agreement of the IDB, the Executive Vice President, Reina Irene Mejía Chacón, will serve as President, under the direction of the Executive Board, until a new President is elected.”

“The election will be held as established in the Agreement and in the Regulations for the Election of the President of the Bank. The IDB Group and its teams continue to operate normally, to fulfill the mission of improving lives in Latin America and the Caribbean,” said the agency.

History

Founded in 1959, the IDB is one of the main sources of long-term financing for the economic, social and institutional development of Latin America and the Caribbean, with US$23.5 billion granted in loans to different countries in the region in 2021, focused on in boosting economies and offering lines of credit to buy vaccines to prevent Covid-19.

Claver-Carone was dismissed from his position this Monday by a vote of the governors of the entity after being denounced for maintaining an intimate relationship with a direct collaboratora situation that is not accepted by the institution’s code of conduct.
