Customs denounces automotive multinational for maneuvering with freight

In this way, it was detected that an important company in the automotive sector located in the interior of the country declared high freight costs in its import operations. “The maneuver consisted of repeatedly declaring the freight values when goods from different commercial purchase operations abroad were transported in a truck. This mechanism allowed international freight to be overbilled”, detailed a source aware of the details of the case.

The operation was alerted in specific cases but later led to an expanded analysis. According to the complaint, the results obtained showed an overinvoicing of freight by more than u$s 2.6 million. In short, the conduct indicated is that improperly obtained foreign exchange at the official price and transferred it abroad.

Justice already has files that investigate operations of this type since mid-August. In this case, the investigations are aimed at international logistics firms that would have overcharged their services. It is estimated that fictitious charges could have increased the real value of the freight by around 50% to do business with the exchange rate gap.

As this media reported, for months Customs has been focusing on the detection of irregular maneuvers. Among them, the abusive use of precautionary measures to import, the alleged “rental” of the same, the illegitimate operations from the free zone, the use of the temporary import regime by companies that did not specify exports and fraudulent triangulation, among others. .

In the vast majority of the cases cited, the companies involved were small firms or new to the market, companies created for that purpose. Now the complaint falls on a multinational from one of the most important sectors in the local industry and puts under the magnifying glass the use of one of the scarcest and most demanded resources these days, dollars.
