The AgTech sector grew 70% in Argentina in the last five years, according to a private study

According to a survey of Agtech companies in Latin America, the sector doubled in size in the last three years in an industry that generates 25% of the national GDP and 70% of exports.

In this mapping of the Agtech ecosystem of Latin America initiated in 2019 by the Austral University, The Yield Lab, and Endeavor, 165 companies were identified within the AgTech ecosystem of Argentina. Likewise, the survey found that 70% of AgTech companies (115 companies) were formed during the 2017-2022 period.

“This is a sector that arouses the interest of investors since, according to the latest Agfunder report, investments between 2020 and 2021 doubled, reaching US$ 51.7 billion; and Latin America leads the investments in this sector followed by Asia and Europe”, explained Soler, speaking in a panel.

According to the specialist, “all these companies and many more are transforming the way in which food is produced, transported and consumed in Latin America; and these numbers show the incredible opportunity that the sector still has to continue innovating”.

“Latin America is key because it generates 14% of food worldwide, concentrates 33% of fresh water and 36% of arable land,” Soler concluded.

For his part, Daniel Pelegrina, Director of Institutional Development of the CEAg stated that “a great evolution towards the adoption of technology is clearly in sight”.

“We have no doubts about the challenge faced by the countries that can produce food for a world that is growing and is demanding us, nor that technology today explains and will reliably explain the very high percentage of what we producers do,” he concluded.
