The representatives, who will fulfill their role on an ad honorem basis, will be moderated by the head of the National Directorate of Open Innovation, and must evaluate the 29 projects presented in the first call for the Enhance the Video Game Industry program.
With a total amount of $250 million, the first call, which closed on July 29, will finance up to $6 million in Non-Refundable Contributions (ANR) to universities, Technology Linkage Units (UVT) and companies that presented video game projects
The maximum amount of the NRA could be increased by $500,000, in the event that the project has a gender perspective, for example, in the plot of the game or in the event that the firms have a majority percentage of women in their management positions.
In Argentina, the national video game industry tripled in size in the last six years, counting today with more than 100 companies and 2,000 employees.
The companies are located throughout the country and are dedicated to both marketing their own games and selling their development services to other companies.
Currently 105,000 students are studying careers related to the sector, which requires varied tasks that include both programming and graphic art, script, sound, voices and tests.
Likewise, firms in the sector are covered by the Knowledge Economy Law and, therefore, can receive benefits such as, for example, a bonus corresponding to 70% of employer contributions for the payment of national taxes, a discount of up to 60% in the Income Tax rate; and zero withholdings for exports.
According to the Observatory of the Argentine Video Game Industry, this subsector represented more than US$86 million in 2020, of which 77% corresponded to exports, with the United States and Canada as the main markets.
