He clarified that “this is actually the first face-to-face meeting after the pandemic, because the one we did last year was still marked by the Covid restrictions, so we had to choose a place like Mexico, where there was greater openness to be able to come from different countries.

“During the conference, the issues that are a priority in our industry were revealed, which often go unnoticed in the discussion of the day-to-day situation, and on this occasion we took the time to analyze what are the priority issues that the industry wants to attend immediately”, explained Eurnekian.

He pointed out that “sustainability was analyzed, where air passenger transport is going, post-pandemic recovery, are all issues that have arisen these days and it gives us the certainty of why these conferences are being held and we have to be vigilant because they are the issues that will develop.”

Eurnekian reiterated that in our country, “400 million dollars will be invested” in the modernization of the airports that the company operates and that “the readjustment of the terminals and the safety of operations are the fundamental pillars that motivate investments,” while time that said that “for the next five years we have projected investments for about 750 million dollars”.

He also announced that starting tomorrow “the Posadas airport will be back in operation, completely renovated, next week we will inaugurate the Control Tower of the Jujuy airport, the renovation of the runway and the terminal of the San Rafael airport was tendered and for the first quarter of next year we will be inaugurating the new departure terminal in Ezeiza, among other projected and ongoing works”.

The Assembly was attended by almost 300 people, including representatives of airports, service providers, airline representatives, directors of ACI and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and on the opening day, with the participation of the transport ministers, Alexis Guerrera; and Tourism and Sports, Matías Lammens.

On one of the fundamental topics of discussion, it was reported that, according to the latest data on airport movements in Latin America and the Caribbean, the region registered air traffic in August 2022 that was 1.7% lower than that of the same period in 2019. and although the pre-pandemic figures have not yet been reached, it is the best performance of the airports in the region.

“The recovery that Latin America and the Caribbean has had so far is surprising,” said Rafael Echevarne, general director of ACI-LAC, who stated that the Dominican Republic and Mexico were the countries that recovered the most, with increases of 17%. and 11% compared to 2019.

He indicated that “countries that have never closed their borders, like Mexico, and that have lifted restrictions for a long time, have recovered air traffic more quickly. Now the trend is toward expansion, because since October 1 there is no restrictions on the entry of passengers in the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, that is, there are no reasons related to Covid-19 that make travel in the region difficult,” added Echevarne.

The Annual Assembly and Conference of the International Council of Airports of Latin America and the Caribbean is the main event of the airport market in the region that brings together the main authorities and leaders of the sector.
