Anyone who heats their home with gas – and that is after all every second German household – goes into the winter with anxious feelings. Because of the Russian conflict, gas is scarce and expensive. The start of the heating season was already violent: According to the comparison portal Verivox, in September the costs for heating with gas were 500 percent higher than in the previous year. It didn’t look much better for heating oil either: Here the plus is almost 300 percent.
The increase in September can be partly explained by the cooler temperatures, but of course also by the exploding prices. And they’re going to make heating damn expensive all winter long, even if there’s enough for everyone.
Many people are therefore currently thinking about buying fan heaters or other electrical alternatives – or have already done so. But how sensible is heating with electricity instead of gas? How much does it cost? And what dangers does it pose? The experts from have looked at various methods (see photo gallery).
