Cumulative Variation reaches a record increase in transportation costs of 82.1% as of the third quarter of 2022 (January-September 2022), while the accumulated variation reaches 96% in the last twelve monthsin a context of continuous acceleration of retail and wholesale inflation in the economy.

On the other hand, the real economy also shows acceptable levels of activity throughout the year, taking into account the strong general economic recovery experienced since the second half of 2021.

The study, carried out by the Department of Economic Studies and Costs of FADEEAC, measures 11 items that directly impact the costs of freight transport companies throughout the country, and is a reference to a large extent for setting or adjusting rates of the sector.

In the month of September, as in the preceding months, most of the items showed increases, with several of them once again showing relevant increases.

First of all, the increase in the labor cost, which arises from the second tranche of the agreement signed in April 2022, with its direct impact on Personnel – Driving (13.9%) and on the related component items Repairs (6.59%) and General Expenses (7.43 %).

Secondly, in September there was a significant and new increase in Tires (12.28%) -after the rise of almost 12% in August.

This record marks the ninth monthly and consecutive increase since the beginning of 2022, already exceeding 100% increase over the course of the year (105.4%). Lubricants, for its part, increased 6% after the rise of 8.5% in August and the marked rises registered in most of the months of the year.

Next, Rolling Stock increased 5.46% while Insurance (0.15%) exhibited a marginal rise.

On the Fuel side, although it is not modified in September, a significant increase in diesel is projected for the month of October, taking into account the strong increases applied by the oil companies as of October 1, which include the update of the IDC and ICL specific taxes and the rise in biodiesel.

The rest of the items (Patents and rates, Tolls), with the exception of the Financial Cost (14.43%)did not undergo modifications in relation to the previous month.

With the record cost increase in twenty years (82% increase in the Cost Index, 82% in Fuel and 105% in Tires only in the period January-September 2022), the increase in costs in the Transportation of Charges, operating, as has been pointed out, in an economic context of high general inflationary nominality, although with indicators of recovery in economic activity.
