They foresee problems in the production of Entre Ríos if it does not rain 50 millimeters in October

The drought advanced in the center and south of Entre Ríos, where the state of the fine crops calls for a “peremptory return of higher volume rainfall,” something that “is not satisfied in the forecasts,” the stock market entity said in a report.

The September rains separated the province into two halves: the center and north had accumulated rainfall “normal in statistical terms”, while for the center and south, mainly the wheat zone, the rains “decrease and do not reach” the historical records .

Although Entre Ríos can still avoid falling into a total state of strong drought, during the winter a “very poor performance” of rains was recorded and “low frequency of events and low rainfall volumes” are expected for October.

The moisture reserves in the provincial soil show deficiencies that put pressure on the state of the crops, the Stock Exchange said.

The plots have held up “relatively well” with less than normal rainfall, but currently they need “a more generous blow of water” to support yields, and producers predict a year with “uneven planting progress.”

In this framework, the organization proposes “potentially rethinking traditional agronomic practices, especially dates”, in order to “get out of the threat of drought”.

The drought was described as the worst in the last 60 years according to provincial records, and caused “devastating” ecological and economic effects, with little rainfall that generated thermal stress in crops and animals.

The rainfall records for December 2021 in Entre Ríos were among the ten lowest in the last 60 years, and the rains for that month accumulated less than 20 millimeters, six times below what should normally rain.
