Biontech, Aldi, Lidl: The richest Germans – and where they get their money from

The richest German is 83 years old and lives in Neckarsulm. According to a list by Manager Magazin, the fortune of discounter king Dieter Schwarz is estimated at 36 billion euros. The head of Lidl and Kaufland not only leaves the family clans of Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd behind, but also the previous frontrunners, the BMW heirs Susanne Klatten and Stefan Quandt.

According to the evaluation, there are currently 212 billionaires in Germany. That is one less than in the previous year’s ranking, which includes not only individuals but also families. In addition, the richest 100 on the list lost around 55 billion euros in assets compared to the previous year as a result of the general economic development. In percentage terms, however, the losses are significantly lower than those of the Dax share index.
