The spread of artificial intelligence (AI) in companies is increasing: This technology is already being used in four out of ten companies in Austria and Germany. In 2020 it was three out of ten. The most common applications are analysis and forecast models and use in process optimization. These are central findings of the Hernstein Management Report of the Hernstein Institute for Management of the Vienna Chamber of Commerce, which was recently published. 1500 executives in German and Austrian companies were interviewed. Around 60 percent of executives say that AI will have an impact on the development of their company. The majority expects a positive influence, which should be noticeable above all in production, accounting and strategy development.
Half of the managers see positive impulses from AI for their own profession. In 2020 it was just over a third.
“It needs further training”
In 21 percent of the companies, AI is part of regular operations, in another 22 percent it is in the pilot or introductory phase. At 47 percent, AI use in Germany is noticeably higher than in Austria (38 percent).
“Managers mainly see AI as an enrichment, but they still need support – for example through personal training or the involvement of experts in order to successfully integrate this new technology into the organization and corporate culture,” says Michaela Kreitmayer, head of the Hernstein Institute.
