After a long weekend, in Mar del Plata they predict a very good season

Historically, in Mar del Plata, the holiday of October 12 was always considered as the prelude to what will be the summer season in terms of tourist influx and they have always been days when tourists, in addition to resting, take the opportunity to ensure their vacations during the summer months in the Happy City.

Both from the College of Auctioneers and from the Business Chamber of Spas, Restaurants and Related (Cebra), chaired by Guillermo Rossi and Nelson Díaz Aguirre, respectively, they affirmed that the large influx of visitors registered during the weekend makes them predict very good expectations for the summer.

“Mar del Plata had a very good weekend, in terms of the arrival of tourists (168,876 people, a figure that marked 73% more income than in 2019), non-hotel occupancy close to 80% and hotel occupancy of 90%”, expressed the entrepreneurs of the tourism sector.

During this weekend it was possible to observe that the real estate companies kept their doors open to show the range of departments and houses available for this summer.

As for gastronomy, the head of the local Union of Tourism, Hotel and Gastronomy Workers of the Argentine Republic (Uthgra), Pablo Santin, said that during the extra-long weekend, given the great demand, “they eventually joined 3,000 workers.

Entrepreneurs and gastronomic workers agreed that during these four days they worked hard due to the large number of tourists who visited the city.

The trade unionist maintained that “it was the best holiday of the year.” The activity in restaurants, bars, breweries and cafeterias “was in full swing, which makes us predict that we will have a very good summer.”

“Tourism has again boosted the demand for work and according to the surveys we carry out, we estimate that between 2,500 and 3,000 temporary workers have been summoned in the hotel and gastronomy sector during this long weekend,” he said in a statement.

With regard to hotels, demand was concentrated in the downtown area, with occupancy levels of between 80 and more than 90% in some cases. “These are high and positive numbers for this time of year and they create a very interesting precedent for the season. Everything indicates that a summer is approaching that will be as good as the last one or even better,” added Santin.

“Most of the establishments have worked excellently,” said the trade unionist, who stressed that there were even waiting lists in several cafes, breweries and restaurants, according to what was revealed by Uthgra between Friday and Monday, both during the day and at night. night, in different areas of the city.

“The recreational offer that the city had for this weekend favored our activity. We saw in the port the restaurants operated thanks to the Marea festival, with more than 100,000 spectators, but also in the Güemes area, with its natural movement plus the Book Fair, which allowed establishments to also work intensely,” analyzed the trade unionist.
