The Argentine domestic air commercial market mobilized 1.1 million passengers in September

In September, 10,027 domestic flights were registered, which implies 65.4% more than 2021, but at the same time 16.9% less than in September 2019, repeating the difference that was also registered in August, when compare 2022 with 2019.

In that month, Aerolineas Argentinas maintained its market leadership with 69%, followed by Flybondi with 17%, while JetSmart came in third with 13%.

Regarding the international market, 5,085 flights were registered in September, which means 384% more than in 2021, although still 28.8% less than 2019 and 764 thousand passengers were transported, which reflects a 569.9 % more than the same month in 2021, but 31.5% less than in 2019.

As for destinations, Bariloche, El Calafate, Jujuy, Chapelco, San Juan, Santiago del Estero, Formosa and Esquel, have registered so far this 2022 (from January to September), more passengers than the same period of 2019.

Aerolineas Argentinas was also the company that transported the most passengers to and from Brazil, in September; the third regarding Chile, after Latam and Sky; and the second regarding the United States, behind American Airlines.

During this year, different variables influenced the growth of international passengers, such as the sum of flights to Peru and Colombia, new routes to Brazil, an increase in local receptive tourism; new routes of Low Cost airlines; restart and increase of operations from the interior to regional destinations and the return of summer routes.

In particular, Aerolineas Argentinas increased its interprovincial routes, without passing through Buenos Aires, strengthened its Córdoba Hub and increased its regional flights, inaugurating routes between cities in Brazil and cities in the interior of the country, such as Córdoba, Mendoza, Salta, Bariloche, Ushuaia and El Calafate.

The large infrastructure works that were carried out in Aeroparque and in Ezeiza are an example of how the different actors in the sector are being a key factor in the recovery of activity, as reflected in the statements of the Minister of Transport of the Nation, Alexis Guerrera, during the opening of the Annual Assembly of the Airports Council International, which took place a few days ago in Buenos Aires.

The modernization plan being carried out by Aeropuertos Argentina 2000 together with ORSNA and the National Ministry of Transportation, was then considered “key” for Jorge Newbery Airport to continue with its plan for growth, modernization and optimization of its infrastructure.

During the pandemic, Aeroparque took the opportunity to carry out infrastructure works on the runway and the international arrivals sector and thus, with a completely new runway and with the construction of this new sector of the passenger terminal, which now has a broader, with more services and completely renovated, regional flights were resumed, adding flights to Bogotá and Lima, which did not exist before.

As part of the recovery of the industry, Flybondi, the first of the low cost companies that began operating in the country, advanced with a growth and investment plan that led them to take their fleet to 8 Boeing 737 aircraft in 10 months -800 NG, while the company announced that between October and December it will receive at least 2 more planes, thus reaching the planned 10 planes.

As a result of its growth plan, the airline generated more than 500 jobs throughout the country in 2022 alone and today it already has more than 1,050 employees. In addition, the company added 4 national routes to enhance connectivity to the south of the country: Ushuaia, Puerto Madryn, El Calafate and Comodoro Rivadavia and there are already 17 national destinations to which it operates.

Today Flybondi connects Argentina and Brazil from the Ezeiza International Airport, operating to Rio de Janeiro, San Pablo and since December to Florianopolis and has now requested authorization from the aeronautical authority to operate international flights from Aeroparque to destinations such as Uruguay.
