Guedes revealed that Brazil will nominate a candidate for the presidency of the IDB

At a press conference held on Friday afternoon in Washington, after attending the meetings of the International Monetary Fund, Guedes said there was revealed the Brazilian candidacy for the secretary of the Treasury of the United States, Janet Yellenin casual conversation.

The theme was also discussed with Colombia and Chile this week, but without mentioning the nominee, the minister said.

The Minister of Economy, Serge Massa, also met this week with Guedes in Washington. Massa managed to get the IDB to reactivate credits for Argentina that were blocked during Claver-Carone’s presidency in the organization.

“Brazil has spent 63 years observing and has never chaired (the IDB). We think we deserve it, we have a representative GDP, we are a strong economy,” he noted.

Guedes showed himself supporter of a five-year term with re-election vetoed for the IDBwhich provided $23.4 billion in financing and other financial commitments in 2021.

The Brazilian candidate will not be associated with a political position, added the minister. The 30th of October, left-wing former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and right-wing president Jair Bolsonaro will dispute the second round of elections generals.
