Beef consumption fell almost 8% compared to 2019

But, this time the main cuts of beef recorded increases much higher than those observed in the June-August quarter, which were equivalent to half of the general increase indicated above. Meanwhile, the price of frozen hamburgers maintained the monthly growth rate in double digits and the price of chicken accelerated again and exceeded the general average.

In this sense, last September, hamburgers increased by 11.5%, and the other cuts with the highest demand increased below monthly inflation: minced meat rose by 3.2%, roast meat by 2.9%, buttock 3.1%, and the rump 3%. In the meantime, the price of chicken increased by 6.4% per month, the highest in the last four months.

At the same time, from CICCRA they pointed out that between September 2021 and September of this year, the prices of meat cuts rose less than the general level of the IPC. In this regard, the asado increased by 66.9% annually, the minced meat by 66.8%, the shoulder by 65.0%, the rump by 67.4%, and the buttock by 67.3%. For its part, the box of frozen hamburgers rose 108%, and the price of chicken increased 97%.

Industry Analysis

  • Slaughter and production: The slaughterhouse industry slaughtered a total of 1.17 million head of cattle during September 2022. Compared to August, the slaughter registered a drop of 4.8% corrected for the number of working days, but stood at 6.3 % above September 2021. In historical terms, the level of activity was high, ranking #11 in the last forty-three Septembers.
  • Exports: In September, a volume 9.8% higher than that registered in January-September 2021 was exported.
  • Internal market: the volume sent to the domestic market would have been the equivalent of 1.65 million tn r/c/h of beef, exceeding by 3% the total sent in the first months of last year.
