R + V boss proposes different tariffs for vaccinated and unvaccinated people

In an interview, R + V boss Norbert Rollinger said health insurance companies could offer unvaccinated people less favorable tariffs. After all, they also caused higher costs for the health system.

Those who do not want to be vaccinated against the coronavirus could in future receive fewer health insurance benefits or have to pay more for health insurance. The head of R + V insurance, Norbert Rollinger, made this clear in an interview. “As an insurance industry we will have to think sooner or later about possibly differentiating tariffs according to vaccination status,” said Rollinger.

The head of insurance justifies this with the individual higher risk of getting seriously ill and the associated burden on the health system. “After all, these are costs for the community: If someone ends up in intensive care because of Corona, it is significantly more expensive than a vaccination,” said Rollinger, who draws an analogy to smoking. “Even now, health insurance companies are allowed to differentiate between smokers and non-smokers when it comes to tariffs.”

“Don’t let vaccine refusers dance around on the nose”

When more expensive tariffs for unvaccinated people come, depends on the question, “how long the silent majority of vaccinated people can dance around on the nose by the stubborn vaccination refusals,” said Rollinger. “Vaccination refusers show socially harmful behavior – if there are no good medical reasons that speak against vaccination in individual cases,” said the head of insurance.

The R + V Group is one of the largest insurers in Germany and offers, among other things, health insurance for those with statutory health insurance and private patients. Statutory health insurance patients are actually insured in Germany regardless of their state of health, but the health insurers are allowed to reward healthy behavior. In the case of private health insurance, but also occupational disability policies or term life insurance, however, health checks and individual contributions are common.

For the unvaccinated, it could become increasingly expensive in other areas as well. Most recently, politicians had presented plans to stop paying unvaccinated people in quarantine. Even for corona tests, people who do not get vaccinated even though they could have to pay themselves from October 11th.
