During the operation, 40 people were arrested, within the framework of a massive initiative against cyber scams that generated an economic loss of 50 million pesos, 2 million dollars and where the theft of electricity is being investigated.

From the beginning of Carlos Castagneto’s administration, the agency began to carry out inspection and control tasks over the digital assets sector. The information crossings of the specialized areas of the AFIP made it possible to detect undeclared cryptocurrency farms in different parts of the country based on high consumption of electrical energy.
In these face-to-face verifications, the agents verified the existence of the corresponding import documentation for the equipment and the correct registration of both the mining activity and the income received.
Joint work between the Judiciary, the DGI and the DGA
In this framework, the inspectors of the DGI and the DGA collaborated with the Buenos Aires Judiciary, which issued proceedings in three homes in Quilmes for alleged theft of electricity to mask its intensive use in mining crypto assets.
In the operation, a material shed allegedly used for cryptocurrency mining was located, with the provision of “farm”, with a lot of video cards together with the racks and sources required for their connection. The judicial measures aimed to seize seals and devices of any kind to adulterate electricity meters, paper and computer documentation that can prove the maneuvers investigated, cell phones and electronic devices.
