Founder Show: This one “Lions’ den”-Deal is off – you could have guessed it

The founders of Joybräu came to the with beer that makes you strong instead of fat “Lions’ den”. Investor Nils Glagau took a bite, but had a bad feeling about the matter. It happened the way it had to.

That deals from the “Lions’ den” after the broadcast does not come about, happens almost every week. In the case of Joybräu, the no-deal message comes almost as expected. Because the founders of the protein beer start-up and Löwe Nils Glagau hardly seemed to dare to cross the road during the pitch.

Glagau promised an investment of 300,000 euros in the program broadcast on Monday evening, but linked this with unfriendly words. “Woe to you, there are any corpses in the basement with you”, the lion passed on to the founding duo. Now both sides have confirmed that the deal did not go through.

In the strategic negotiations after the broadcast it became clear that “the added value of my investment was not recognized by everyone”, says Glagau in a statement on Twitter. “I think that’s a shame, of course, but then it doesn’t make any sense to go a common path.”

Not agreed

Joybräu founder Tristan Brümmer said that there was a disagreement with Glagau on issues of distribution, logistics and network. In addition, the founders were probably not entirely happy with the numbers negotiated in front of the TV cameras. “We agreed to a massive discount on the show because we had hoped for a lot from his distribution network”said Brümmer to the start-up scene. For an investment of 300,000 euros, the founders originally only wanted to surrender 10 percent of the company shares; Glagau wanted 25 percent for this sum.

The Hamburg start-up Joybräu sells beer as a sports drink, without alcohol but with proteins that are supposed to support muscle building. Instead of Glagau, according to the company, several business angels have now joined the company with a low single-digit million amount. A crowdfunding campaign is also planned for the beginning of 2022.
