Last Sunday, gasoline cost a nationwide daily average of 1.577 euros per liter – more than it has been since 2013. According to ADAC, the price increase has two reasons.

The fuel prices keep rising. E10 premium petrol has meanwhile reached an eight-year high – last Sunday the fuel cost a nationwide daily average of 1.577 euros per liter, as the ADAC announced when asked.

Petrol was last more expensive in 2013. By Tuesday, the E10 was slightly cheaper again to 1.573 euros per liter – but in a weekly comparison that is still an increase of 0.7 cents.

Diesel became much more expensive: With a price of 1.420 euros per liter on Tuesday, it went up by 2.2 cents on a weekly basis. On Sunday, the fuel had reached its highest price since 2018 at 1.422 euros.

The ADAC sees “Persistently expensive crude oil on the world market and the seasonally increasing demand for heating oil” as the driver of the current increase.

The fuel prices have been on the rise for around ten months. Diesel has risen by around 40 cents since its last low in October last year. E10 has even gained almost 45 cents since a low in April 2020. In 2020, Corona caused oil and fuel prices to collapse.
