Dietrich Mateschitz owned a private island in the South Pacific in Laucala (Republic of Fiji), but he always stood out for his deep connection to his homeland. Mateschitz had a soft spot for beautiful places and not only invested a lot in his Styrian home and saved many a property from decay. In addition to the many investments related to the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, he has acquired around 30 castles, hotels, restaurants, such as the Winterstellgut in Annaberg, in recent years – and he also founded a brewery. He owned around 3,500 hectares of land in Styria alone.
A hotel on the Grundlsee
There is also a connection to Upper Austria. The Landhaus zu Appesbach in St. Wolfgang is owned by Mateschitz. The hotel is located directly on the lake. He has also expanded his real estate empire in the Styrian Salzkammergut. Mateschitz acquired, for example, the well-known Seewiese snack bar on the north shore of Lake Altaussee, a few kilometers further the Ausseerland fish farm in Kainisch and also the shipping company on Grundlsee. The Seehotel Grundlsee was just as much a part of it as the most recent acquisition: the former postal convalescent home in Grundlsee – the Villa Anna. As early as 2014, Mateschitz in Heimschuh in southern Styria took over the winery from Thomas Muster and in spring 2022 Mateschitz’ real estate company bought the Maria-Theresien-Schlössl in the Morzg district of Salzburg for ten million euros. The property also includes 1.5 hectares of parkland. (ct)
