So that they can face the debt, the State will allow distributors to obtain additional resources through an adjustment in rates.
In this point, the intention is that the rates paid in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (AMBA) begin to match those paid in the interior, which are much higher.
“A period of no more than 90 days is established to carry out the integral tariff revisions corresponding to the electricity distribution companies of the Buenos Aires metropolitan area,” according to the Budget project approved on Wednesday.
In addition, the initiative establishes that “given the public service nature of both the distribution and the transport of electricity, the national State and the provincial jurisdictions must publish, in a period not exceeding 90 days, tariff charts that allow distributors comply with the obligations”.
Consequently, all delinquent distributors will have a period of three months to raise the tariff recompositions.
The rate review must be called by the National Electricity Regulatory Entity (ENRE) in the case of Edenor and Edesur, which are the only two distributors with national jurisdiction.
Both companies must update the distribution value added (VAD) which is what they charge for the provision of electricity service in their concession areas.
The 2023 Budget project obtained half sanction from the Chamber of Deputies and is now awaiting its treatment in Senators, so that it can finally become law.
