Agreement signed to support transition towards more sustainable and inclusive agri-food systems

“We don’t have time to deal with emergencies; to guarantee food security, the collaborative work of all government areas is required; we want them to see us as a bridge to achieve positive experiences in the region,” Lubetkin declared.

“Food sovereignty must be built jointly,” added Merquel.

The agreement seeks to design specific public policies to increase the availability and access to healthy, safe and wholesome food, strengthen compliance with the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda, promote the development of the National AccionAR Plan and the Markets program Multiply.

The signing was attended by FAO Argentina, María Laura Escuder, program officer in charge of the Representation in the country, and technicians from the area of Sustainable Agrifood Systems (SAS).

“The signing of this memorandum allows us to work together with the Cncps to guarantee the access of the entire Argentine population to a healthy diet, and to continue working to comply with the SDGs,” Escuder said.

Participating on behalf of the Cncps were Matías Sotomayor, General Director of International Relations, Institutional Communication and Coordinator of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) project; Nicolás Carvalho, Undersecretary for Social Policies and Eduardo Brau, Undersecretary for Technical Coordination and Information Analysis.

“Argentina has a present state capacity with social policies,” Sotomayor explained.

The Cncps is the governing body for the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the SDGs and in July it presented the Third National Voluntary Report 2022, which summarizes the commitments assumed by the country and reviews the work carried out based on the strategic priorities defined by the current administration of the Government.
