“The key to success is still our technology,” says sole managing director Norbert Jungreithmayr, who has been a member of the management team since 2005. The turning, drilling and milling centers manufactured by WFL are used to manufacture precision parts for a wide variety of industries, such as the crankshafts for Ferrari engines.
According to Jungreithmayr, the purchase of FRAI Elektromaschinenbau in 2018 was an “important step towards automation”. Because thanks to the know-how of the company from St. Konrad, WLF can also counteract the shortage of skilled workers. “The machine can complete individual production steps independently.” As a result, personnel can be saved during the night shift, for example. WFL currently employs around 450 people.
A selling point is now the design of the systems. The youngest generation is glazed: “If the production employees of our customers prefer to work on our systems, then that helps us, because the employees also want to be bound internationally everywhere.”
Proof of sustainability is also required. Digitization helps here: “Our machines can now provide precise information about the CO2 emissions that occur during the production of a piece,” says Jungreithmayr. In a few years it will be “perfectly normal” to show the carbon footprint of every product.
WFL ended the 2021 financial year with a turnover of 108 million euros. Due to the pandemic, business temporarily dropped by 15 to 20 percent, and according to Jungreithmayr the company is now “close to the pre-crisis level again”. For any crises, WLF has “widely positioned” – no industry that is supplied accounts for more than 20 percent of sales.
The company’s order situation is also good. “At the moment we are not noticing any drop in orders.” Jungreithmayr is also “cautiously optimistic” for the coming year.
WFL Millturn has been owned by the German Rothenberger Group since 1993. This includes 60 companies with a total of 1700 employees. (pef)
