Regardless of gender: skirt or jacket? Bahn leaves the choice of uniform free

Regardless of gender: skirt or jacket? Bahn leaves the choice of uniform free

The railway changes the rules for their uniforms. Since November, employees have been able to “order items from both the men’s and women’s collections and wear them on duty”.

Tie and jacket or scarf and skirt: Since the beginning of the month, Deutsche Bahn employees who have direct customer contact have been able to choose their own uniform, regardless of their gender.

“Train attendants, customer advisors, engine drivers or service staff can use it to order items from both the men’s and women’s collections and wear them on duty,” wrote rail boss Richard Lutz on the LinkedIn careers platform. Employees could “wear exactly the clothes in which they feel most comfortable”.

Previous “traditional regulation” adjusted

A railway spokesman announced that a previous “traditional regulation” was adjusted after more and more employees had expressed this wish.

According to the spokesman, around 45,000 DB employees with customer contact wear company clothing. They were re-dressed in mid-2020 and have been in burgundy and navy ever since. The draft for the current uniforms comes from designer Guido Maria Kretschmer (“Shopping Queen”).
