Breakthrough at night: Metaller-KV stands

The 130,000 employees will receive an average increase in actual wages of 7.44 percent, with the increase made up of an increase of 5.4 percent and a monthly payment of 75 euros. Depending on the wage group, workers receive an actual increase of between 8 and 8.9 percent, employees 7 percent.

The minimum wage increases to 2,236 euros gross. Compensation for apprentices will be gradually increased to 1,050 euros per month in the first year of apprenticeship by 2024. The KV applies retrospectively from November 1, 2022.

After the nightly agreement, the employee representatives Karl Dürtscher (GPA) and Rainer Wimmer (PRO-GE) were satisfied with the agreement, after all it was sustainable, since the one-off payments desired by the employers were not made. It was also emphasized that low incomes in particular will be increased. “We managed to achieve real wage growth in an extraordinary situation,” Wimmer told journalists.

Employer chairman Christian Knill also spoke of an extraordinary situation, but ultimately both sides moved – in the interests of social peace and planning security. He regretted that it had not been possible to make one-off payments palatable to the unions. Regarding the costs, Knill said that personnel expenses in the metalworking industry would be around nine billion, so future wage and salary increases would certainly involve considerable sums.

Four rounds of negotiations were necessary for the agreement, today a good 12 hours were negotiated in the Chamber of Commerce in Vienna. The employee representatives of GPA and PRO-GE started the negotiations with a demand for 10.6 percent more wages and salaries. The basis for haggling is traditionally the inflation rate of the past twelve months, which was 6.4 percent.
