Cement shipments fell in October after nine months of growth

The last monththe Dispatches showed a retraction of 6.7% compared to those of September and they were made up of 1,131,593 tons destined for the domestic market (with a drop of 0.8% in the year-on-year comparison) and 5,051 for export (54.2% drop compared to September 2021).

As there was no import of cement (as in the last 46 months) domestic consumption was once again equal to the local dispatch.

The projections AFCP provisional for all 2022 realize a level of 13.2 million tons which, if materialized, would represent a growth of 8.9% in relation to 2021 and, in addition, the highest volume of the last five years.

The evolution of shipments coincides with that of economic activity in general and that of the industry building in particular, which showed a decrease from the process of devaluation of the peso started in the second quarter of 2018with a special impact on the real estate market.

What construction was not included among the essential sectors at the start of the pandemic restrictionscement shipments had a pronounced decrease in the first months of this stage.

However, as the restrictions were relaxed, showed a rebound which was reflected in uninterrupted growth between September 2020 and December 2021, partially interrupted in January this year.

In April and May 2021when some restrictions on construction activity were reinstated amid rising Covid-19 cases, dispatches showed monthly fallsalthough they maintained the positive year-on-year trend.

For being one of the main inputs of the sectorthe increase in cement shipments is taken as advance data of the general activity of the construction sectorwhich the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (Indec) will announce on December 7 next.
