“Working more and longer must pay off”

“Working more and longer must pay off”

Doris Hummer, President of the Upper Austrian Chamber of Commerce, presented a plan yesterday together with industry division chairman Erich Frommwald and Thomas Kiesenhofer from the Linz tax consultancy LeitnerLeitner to counteract this: “Working more and longer must pay off,” said Hummer. People must have more net from the gross.

These include, firstly, incentives for part-time employees, i.e. the tax deductibility of childcare costs, the adjustment of the additional income limit for childcare allowance and the abolition of the possibility of additional income in addition to unemployment benefit. Secondly, there is a need for incentives for pensioners who are willing to work, for example in the form of a pensioner’s allowance for gainful employment of 6,000 euros. Third, the extent of the monthly tax-free overtime premiums would have to be increased to make overtime more attractive. (prel)
