The energy drink maker paid Mateschitz 866 million euros, the Bloomberg news agency and dossier journalist Ashwien Sankholkar reported on Thursday. Mateschitz held 49 percent of Red Bull, which passed to his son Marc Mateschitz after his death. The current payment for 2021 consists of (almost) half of the distributed annual profit of EUR 757 million, half of a distribution of EUR 500 million from retained earnings and a special payment to Mateschitz of EUR 250 million. According to a statement published by “Dossier”, Mateschitz was released from his obligations throughout 2021. The greater half of the distributions from annual profit and retained earnings went to the Thai majority owners. The shareholder Chalerm Yoovidhya also received a special payment of 3 million euros.

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires index, the fortune of the Red Bull founder amounted to 15.1 billion US dollars (15 billion euros). According to Bloomberg, Red Bull increased unconsolidated sales last year by a quarter to 5.3 billion euros, net sales increased by 37 percent. The full annual results have not yet been published.
