How inflation changes investing

Eleven percent inflation rate – that is the highest value measured in Austria since the 1950s, and although credit interest rates are rising again, money in savings accounts is noticeably devalued. Faced with this problem, many people are wondering what to do with “what’s left of the money”. This is the motto of the money day of the OÖ Nachrichten on November 25th in the Promenaden Galerien in Linz.

Is it currently advisable to invest in stocks? Are bonds making a comeback? Will real estate prices stagnate? Experts from universities, economic research institutes, banks and insurance companies as well as representatives of listed companies will answer these and other questions.

Already in the morning, 300 students from Upper Austria are guests to talk about their financial future with economics professor Friedrich Schneider, the general director of the Raiffeisen Landesbank Heinrich Schaller, the blockchain investor Sebastian Holler and Dominik Huber from Young Shareholders. The other program items at a glance:

“What’s left of the money” (13:00-13:45) An assessment of the development of the economy and price development with Monika Köppl-Turyna (Director of the Institute Eco Austria), economic historian Roman Sandgruber, Stefanie Christina Huber (CEO of Sparkasse Oberösterreich) and Martin Seiter (Member of the Board of Oberbank).

“Why should I buy your shares?” – Part 1 (14:00-14:30) Listed companies under scrutiny: how is day-to-day business going, what is the long-term strategy and why should investors buy shares in them? In the first part, Sebastian Wolf (CEO Rosenbauer) and Christoph Gabriel (Investor Relations Amag) are guests.

“Investment strategy in times of eleven percent inflation” (14:30-15:15) Panel discussion with General Director Klaus Kumpfmüller (Hypo Upper Austria), Managing Director Josef Weißl (Bank and Insurance WK Upper Austria division), Director Andreas Fellner (Partner Bank) and Director Helmut Nuspl (Schoellerbank Linz).

“Why should I buy your shares?” – Part 2 (15:30-16:00) with Andreas Klauser (CEO Palfinger) and Elisabeth Stadler (CEO VIG).

“How high is my risk and what alternatives do I have as an investor?” (16:00-16:45) Panel discussion with CEO Manfred Pammer (Athos), Andrea Lang (Head of Marketing and Sales at Austrian Mint), Florian Beckermann (Investor Interest Group) and the head of the Upper Austria region, Johann Penzenstadler (Spängler Bank).

After each round of talks, a gold coin from the Austrian Mint will be raffled off.
