Within this framework, the governor of Neuquén Omar Gutierrez He highlighted the figures and assured: “If we hadn’t done what we did with Vaca Muerta, the country would have exploded. Vaca Muerta generated 10,000 million dollars of energy this year, 8,000 for the domestic market and 2,000 in oil and gas exports”.
“Vaca Muerta generated the substitution of gas imports, which is worth 5,000 million dollars. Although the negative energy balance is 2,000 million dollars, it would have been 7,000. And that is the result of a continuous and persevering process. That is why we say that today Vaca Muerta is a State policy, a life lesson and a reality,” the official said.
In another vein, the president insisted on the importance of “shielding” Vaca Muerta. In this sense, he highlighted: “We have already shielded our geological formation against these lack of agreement, so that in 2022 we continue to break production records.”
Gutiérrez considered it important “not to change the rules.” By way of example, he said: “If we want to sell to the world what the world needs and buy from the world what we need,
gas production
As for the gas, October production was 83.84 million m³/d, 3.3% lower than September, although 8.84% above October 2021.
The difference compared to September this year is mainly due to the drop in production in the Fortín de Piedra (-2.87 MMm³/d), Aguada Pichana Oeste (-0.37 MMm³/d), Loma Campana (-0 .15 MMm³/d) and Bajo del Choique – La Invernada (-0.12 MMm³/d).
Investments
The governor of Neuquén, Omar Gutiérrez, assured that “In 2023, US$7,000 million will be invested in Vaca Muerta, and it will exceed the record of US$5,500 million achieved this year”, when speaking at the IEFA Latam Forum held in the City of Buenos Aires.

Within the framework of a panel in which the president of Pan American Energy, Alejandro Bulgheroni, also participated, the governor maintained that “Vaca Muerta has no ceiling on its potential” and specified that “for every dollar that is developed, 50% returns to the national, provincial and municipal tax authorities.
“By the end of next year, Argentina will be self-sufficient in terms of gas and will be able to continue exporting to Chile and Brazil. In two years, the evacuation capacity will be 750,000 barrels of oil per day, leaving 250,000 of those for export”, added the leader of the Neuquino Popular Movement (MPN).
Meanwhile, Gutiérrez stressed that “US$30,000 million dollars were invested in Vaca Muerta. Every day agreements and consensus are built so that this advances with employers, unions, governments and society. There is a 35-year law that allows such agreements”.
And he added that “the deposit has 2,000 wells and 8% of its exploited area. One gas well is equivalent to everything the European Union imports from Russia. A decisive factor was understanding the value of Vaca Muerta. This year it will generate US$1,500 million in exports and US$5,000 million in import substitution. We achieve it with efficiency and productivity, which generate more investment and more work.”
