Shopping behavior: Survey: Savings are also made when shopping online

Even if the majority of online shoppers want to go bargain hunting again on the upcoming discount days – the increased cost of living has already left its mark.

The drastic increase in the cost of living in Germany has also changed the shopping behavior of online shoppers: People are thinking more carefully about what they really need and are paying more attention to special offers. This is the result of a representative survey by the digital association Bitkom among 1,123 Internet users published on Tuesday.

More than two-thirds (69 percent) of those surveyed said they were currently thinking more carefully about what they actually need before they hit the buy button. Almost as many (64 percent) pay more attention to discount campaigns and special offers. Almost half of online shoppers stated that they generally shop less. According to their own statements, around 40 percent increasingly use the Internet to compare prices.

A total of 91 percent of those surveyed stated that they had bought or booked something online in the past 12 months. That was a slight decrease compared to 2021, when 95 percent of internet users shopped online due to corona.

According to the survey, 64 percent of online shoppers want to go bargain hunting on the upcoming discount days Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Another 13 percent are still undecided. For about one in four, the days of action played no role, Bitkom reported.
