The Public Service Union (GÖD) agreed on this Wednesday morning with Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler (Greens), who is responsible for civil servants, and Finance Minister Magnus Brunner (ÖVP), as both sides of the APA announced.
The cost of the budget was given by the government at around one billion euros.
Both sides were satisfied with the result. Both GÖD chairman Norbert Schnedl and the chairman of the Younion union responsible for municipal employees, Christian Meidlinger, spoke to the APA of a “very pleasing result”. Brunner said: “We have pushed the limits of what is feasible and have achieved a deal that is justified even at this level in times of high inflation.”
The civil servant’s conclusion is thus above the inflation of 6.9 percent for the last four quarters, which is used as the basis for the negotiations. Accordingly, Schnedl was also pleased that a “permanent increase in purchasing power for all employees” had been achieved. While there are threats of strikes in the trade and at ÖBB, the official negotiations this year went off without a great deal of noise. After the second round a week and a half ago, the talks were split into small groups and an agreement has already been reached.
For comparison: The metalheads achieved an average degree of 7.44 percent. But that was not relevant for the GÖD chairman. He emphasized that the different professional groups cannot be compared with one another.
Minimum wage of 2,000 euros
Meidlinger pointed out that with this degree, a gross minimum wage of 2,000 euros can be achieved in all professional groups. This will achieve the target set by the ÖGB for its professional groups. Meidlinger also assumes that the federal states and municipalities will take over the conclusion. The representatives of the federal states and the association of cities and municipalities had already promised this in the previous round of negotiations.
225,835 people (federal employees and state teachers) are directly affected by the salary negotiations, while the 307,900 employees of the states and municipalities, who usually take on the federal qualification, are indirectly affected.
In a written statement to the APA, Brunner was satisfied that everyone involved was aware of the budgetary challenge on the one hand and the high inflation on the other. “With this conclusion of the salary negotiations, we are recognizing the achievements of the public service,” said the finance minister.
Kogler also emphasized that this qualification takes into account the performance of public servants. “Especially for those who want and will start a job in the public sector, we are creating more attractive entry requirements through this salary agreement in combination with improvements through the amendment to the service law,” explained the Vice Chancellor.
