The federal strike committee of the Vida railway department was constituted. As a result, the state strike committees would also be constituted immediately. “The reason for the railway workers’ strike is an insufficient offer from the employers’ side below average rolling inflation and the abrupt termination of negotiations by the employers after the 5th round of collective bargaining last Sunday, although a day of negotiations was already scheduled for the following Monday “, says Robert Hofmann, federal secretary of the railway department in the Vida and member of the KV negotiation team.
24 hour strike
The federal strike committee of the Vida railway department set the strike targets for the 24-hour warning strike. The most important points are the request to the negotiating partner, the Association of Railways in the Austrian Chamber of Commerce (WKÖ), to return to the negotiating table, the fulfillment of the union demand for an increase in KV and actual wages with a monthly fixed amount to strengthen the lower and middle income and that any repression against the strikers should be prevented and that any legal action against the strikers should be avoided.

“everything stands”
The railway workers had announced the strike after the failure of the most recent round of negotiations. Next Monday “everything” will be in place, according to information from Linz vida trade unionist Helmut Woisetschläger – i.e. passenger and freight traffic, not only on ÖBB but also on private railways. For the time being it was not known what effects the strike would have on public transport and whether individual trains would be running.
Video: That said Thomas Schreiber from the Chamber of Commerce’s Railway Association on the forthcoming warning strikes by the railway union and the negotiations on the railway workers’ collective agreement.
