In this sense, he explained that together with the Secretary of Energy, Flavia Royon, this bilateral understanding was signed “after three meetings that we had in record time, because the negotiations took place in 45 dayseven with an outgoing government (in Brazil), but with the willingness to speed up this deal which provides multiple benefits for both countries”.
“I am convinced that in this international context and with the arrival of Lula, we must strengthen deep integration, privileged between our countries and a chapter of this integration, beyond the financial, industrial, agri-food, has to do with energy from the experiences we have lived in the last year; without going any further, Brazil provided us with the electrical energy that Argentina needed so that we do not have setbacks,” he said.
Within this framework, he highlighted the search for “greater autonomy, self-sufficiency, between our countries“, both in “energy, inputs, raw materials”.
The governments of Argentina and Brazil signed last Thursday an extension until 2025 of the Energy Exchange Memorandumwhose main innovation will be the implementation of a bilateral system of payments in local currencies.
The agreement, which sets the modalities of exchange in terms of electricity, will allow Argentina to be supplied in winter from Brazil, and thus reduce the need for imports of liquid fuels for generation.
