It’s not about the money, it’s more about making the support system as targeted as possible in order to actually be able to leverage potential. “We are not dissatisfied with the 5.7 billion euros planned by the government by 2030,” said Frommwald.
In a study, the Industry division tried to find out how comparable neighboring countries are doing it. Frommwald gave Germany as an example, where up to 70 percent is funded for research projects on decarbonization, while in Austria it is only 40 percent.
“Enough renewable electricity”
However, a prerequisite for achieving the climate goals is that sufficient renewable electricity is available, said Frommwald. It must also be “cheap enough” so as not to jeopardize the competitiveness of domestic industry. An appropriate infrastructure is just as important. “By that I don’t just mean power grids, but also grids for hydrogen and CO2,” said Frommwald, and that appropriate storage options are also necessary.
